Widening gap between UK rich and poor

According to the BBC's report of Joseph Rowntree Foundation's findings the wealth gap between rich and poor is at its greatest for 40 years. So why has this happened under a Labour Government?

Chris - I notice no comments on this very important question that you pose, but then perhaps it was rhetorical!

I'm minded of your comment about where our water comes from or goes to - 'not many people know' and indeed the same observation could be applied to our wealth.

Semantically old school Labour can respond that it is the difference between 'New Labour' & 'Labour' - with a government now too concerned on winning a good headline tomorrow - rather than long term planning.

But the real answers: in short the poorer sections of society do not have the power to influence a real shift in resources downwards - we live in a Capitalist society at war with itself in a global market - oh well Friday evening seems to be the time for sweeping generalisations!

Best,

Peter
